Basic Engineering for Plants with Microreactors.

Proof of process

The meaning of pilot plants for the proof of process is significantly shrinking by the adoption of microreaction technology. It is possible to test many process operations already in the labscale plant. A lot of data for the plant design can be obtained on labscale too. Tests on pilot plants can be considerably reduced or in special cases even fully omitted.

Basic Engineering

One of the principal purposes within the range engineering of the Microinnova engineering GmbH is to convert both internally and externally developed micro-process engineering processes into an application of productions. As a basis serve the process data compiled in the process development (Process development), which are adapted on the requirement of a production plant.

The issue of the basic engineering is to provide mass and energy balances, R&I patterns, the selection and dimensioning of the main equipment components as well as the investment and operating cost computations. For a well working production plant it is necessary to find above all the correct mixture between the new micro technology and the conventional equipment technology. The correct dimensioning of micro-structured apparatures is thereby one of our core competence.
Successfully accomplished production conversions confirm our commitment and encourage ourselves in our opinion that micro process engineering will take a more and more important role in a cost-saving future-oriented chemical production.

Plant "Scale up"

Scale up Production plants feature higher flow rates than laboratory plants. In order to transfer processes from laboratory scale to production scale, the so called "scale-up" is used. Microinnova , which regards the development of micro-process engineering plants as one of its core competences, occupies with the "scale-up" in R&D, and could conceive already success on the tons/hour scale (Production).

In order to accomplish the scale-up successfully, one has to take a look beside at the material system and the equipment components, as for example pumps and valves, at the principal item of one µVT - plant: the micro reactor. In order to obtain larger product streams with the same concentration as in laboratory or pilot plants, two principles can be used: (A) in the"numbering-up" several micro reactors are switched parallelly, (B) by means of the scale out (Technology), a micro reactor for the production scale is developed.
