Lab plants and Pilot plants for Micro Process Development.

Microreactor Lab plant and Pilot plant Technology.

Overall

We refer to lab scale microreactor plants as continuous flow plants with microstructured devices that can adopt throughputs up to 200 ml/min of liquids or 2500ml/min of gases. Chemical and/or physical conversions can be made in such plants. They are mainly used as development tool for chemical development and process optimization, but are also employed for production of small amounts of high valuable products. This, of course, requires that the plant is planned and constructed according to required regulatories from the beginning.

Customer orientation

The needs of the chemical systems of the customer define the design of our lab scale plants. Usually the plant design is the result of a preceding basic feasibility study carried out in the laboratories at the Microinnova Engineering GmbH. In the first place such a study clears up if the chemical and/or physical problem is convertible to a continuous, microreaction plant and which are the best suited components. Usual demands to a microreactor plant are flexibility, expandability, scalability, automation, special chemical resistance and so on. The resulting lab plant design can be adapted to fit to existing laboratory facilities of the customer. It is also possible to integrate parts of a lab plant to an existing continuous flow plant.

Measurement and control technology

Lab scale microreactor plants are controlled via MPDS programmed on the basis of LabView. This software can easily be adapted to different plants and changing designs in the development procedure. Pt-100 temperature sensors and piezo-resistive pressure sensors are integrated in the plant by default. More special sensors , such as pH, FT-NIR, electrical conductivity and so on, can be installed if they are desired.

Microreactors and pumping concepts

The chemical and/or physical system and the way the customer wants to use the microreactor plant are the main arguments for reactor selection. The pumping concept depends directly on the used microreactor and the throughput as well as on the medium. Analytical HPLC pumps, micro annular gear pumps and centrifugal pumps are just three pumping concepts that can be used in microreactor plants.
